Pattamundai canal obtains water from the Kendrapara canal which offtakes from the barrage pond at Cuttack. Pattamundai Canal off takes from left side of Kendrapara Canal commanding to an ayacut of 32,583 Ha with a design discharge of 36.00 cumecs. The distribution system consists of the 80.50 Km long main canal, 134.192 Km long of distributaries ,346.858 Km long of minors & sub minor canals. The largest being Distributory No. 8 has a command area of 4185 Ha.
No major renovation work has been taken up in the system since inception and several factors have contributed to physical deterioration of the distribution system over the years. The absence of adequate control structures and water regulating mechanisms has enhanced the deterioration process resulting in decline of irrigated area as well as yield levels of crops. This deficiency is more acute in Rabi cropping season where the returns to irrigation is more pronounced.
Work involves Survey, Design and related services and canal and structures on Main and Distributaries canal of Pattamundi Main Canal to rehabilitate the system.

The Government of Himachal Pradesh is facing a serious problem of floods in the Una District because of Swan River which brings in flash floods in the region during the monsoons. The river damages the area to a large extent and the Government is at a loss to understand the remedial measures to prevent such floods. After a lot of thinking the Government has come up with a suggestion to provide embankments along the banks of this very highly meandering river. The Government is of the opinion to construct the embankments on both sides of the river and use the land behind the embankment for the purposes of horticulture, fisheries and tree plantation. The studies for the project report were also carried out after conducting the model study of these embankments. The area behind the embankments was a part of this project study. The WRCP comprised a comprehensive program of management reforms of water resources management in general and rural water service, including irrigation and drainage in particular. Four priority action areas for sectoral reform and institutional capacity building to overcome the basic causes of the overall poor performance of Rajasthan irrigation sector have been identified. These areas are : (a) improvement of overall water resources planning and sectoral environmental management capabilities; (b) expenditure prioritization and improvement of irrigation cost recovery; (c) improvement of technical performance in irrigation water distribution efficiency and output; and (d) institutional restructuring of the State Irrigation Department with the objective of improved functional and financial performance, management accountability, and beneficiary participation in operation and maintenance (O&M). For this purpose four major, four medium and three minor projects have been nominated to be studied in detail to work out the cost of O&M on irrigation projects in the state of Rajasthan.
